Mission Critical Servers (Cluster, 4 & 8-way)
  31 July 2011

This month we introduce three solutions suitable for mission critical applications. The 3U Cluster Twin is a fully redundant & fault tolerant cluster system; there are two of everything to ensure there is no single point of failure in its design. There are two hot-swappable cannisters for all active components; each server canister supports Dual Xeon 5500/5600 processors, up to 96GB ECC memory via 6 DIMM slots, 3 PCI-E 2.0 (x8/4/4) slots and 6Gbps SAS2. With dual 10GbE connections between the serverboards via the midplane, if one server fails, the other serverboard is able to take over control and access the same set of HDDs to keep the system up and running. 16 x 3.5" SAS/SATA hot-swap HDDs at the front and 1200W Gold Level redundant PSUs at the rear complete the picure.

Supporting the new generation 10-Core Xeon E7-8800 / 4800 processors (codenamed Westmere-EX) is the new 5U 8-way server supporting up to 8 x 10-Core Xeons, 2TB of ECC DDR3 memory, ten PCI-E 2.0 expansion slots, and 24 x 2.5" hard drives. This offers bleeding edge CPU processing power in a single system.

On a slightly lesser scale we also have 4-way systems supporting 4 x 10-Core Xeons, up to 512GB of ECC memory in various form-factors (1U / 2U / 4U / Full Tower). Supermicro New Zealand recommends Fitness for Purpose and Total Cost of Ownership as the criteria for purchasing decisions.
