Introducing the Latest Supermicro 1U
Leading Value and Performance with Single Quad Core + 4 x Hot-Swappable SATA

Auckland, NZ, 29 January 2010 - The most popular 1U entry-level server has been refreshed with a new model based on the latest technology from Intel - previously codenamed Ibex Peak, the Intel 3420 Platform Controller Hub (PCH) supports the latest Lynnfield Xeon processors. The new Single Socket Quad Core Xeon X3400-series processors support new innovations such as Turbo Boost and Smart Cache.
  • Turbo Boost provides dynamic overclocking of individual CPU cores on demand when not all four processor cores are being used - this provides better performance for single threaded applications.
  • Smart Cache provides dynamic allocation of a new larger shared cache to each individual core based on workload. The result is a more efficient use of the high-speed cache by more demanding applications.

Together with the new integrated DDR3 ECC Dual Channel memory controller, these innovations bring a good performance improvement over the previous platform.

The Supermicro 5016I-MTFC by Compucon will support up to 32GB of DDR3 Registered ECC memory or 16GB of Unbuffered ECC memory. There are 4 hot swappable caddies for SATA hard disks that can be set up using the onboard HOST RAID.  We can also install a PCI-Express hardware RAID card for higher performance and for increased reliability and compatibility reasons.  The same system also supports SAS drives using a hardware RAID controller card. Other key features are:
  • Dual (2) Intel 82574L Gigabit Ethernet ports.
  • New with this model is the integration of IPMI 2.0 directly onto the motherboard, provided through a 3rd dedicated RJ45 port. (Note: IPMI is Intelligent Platform Management Interface)
  • The chassis is 19.8” or 503mm deep - same as the previous model.

The previous model is based on the Intel 3210 chipset.  We will continue to offer this model if it is still fit for your applications that do not require a powerful CPU like the Xeon 3430 and IPMI remote management.  You will save some capital cost by having a lower spec CPU. In addition we supply 2U to 5U systems with a higher level of storage based on the same computing platforms.

Biography:
Supermicro New Zealand is hosted by Compucon New Zealand, an IT solution and service operation with ISO-9001 quality management certification.  Compucon is well known in New Zealand for zero workmanship defect, fast material warranty fault rectification and technical support.  All systems supplied by Compucon go through a thorough testing process individually before shipping.  If a Microsoft O/S is included, the system will be installed with optimized drivers chosen and pre-tested by Compucon.  This added value from Compucon is to raise system performance and to enhance compatibility and stability through accumulated experience throughout the years.  The team based in Albany is well praised for their expertise and helpful support.  If you believe you do not require the high level of quality assurance as provided by Compucon, you can alternatively source barebones and parts from us but you may find that assembling your own system is actually more costly in the long run.  Supermicro barebones have 1 year RTB warranty whereas Compucon systems have 2 years.
